Hi Gwynne-
First of all LOVE the Collect script... it's fantastic... a real time saver. I've been using it to take models created in Lightwave, open 'em in modo, and then "Collect" everything to one place for better organization and to make backup easier. Works great.
One thing I've run into though, and it's purely cosmetic... but when I run the script and it asks for the destination. If I hit CANCEL, I get this:

Not a big deal... but it just looks as if something went wrong.
Again, excellent script. Thanks a bunch. Dave
(edit) crap... I didn't see how to create a new topic... sorry |

Hi Dave, cheers. Yep, One of the problems I've been having with Python is finding a way to get a script to de gracefully. It's trivial in Perl but Python automaticlly throws an exception which Modo picks up and throws as an error, its been a pain in the backside. I recently worked out how to do it though so I'll update the collect script in the next couple of days.

Great... I'll keep my eye out for the update, but definitely no hurry (how often does one need to Cancel a Save?).
On a side note, I stumbled upon something when I was using Collect that maybe you have some insight into.
The first time using the script I opened a model that was created in Lightwave (it was a "Lightwave Object File" not a modo "LWO") and ran the script. When I looked at what Collect had created, I found an Images folder and a plain text file. The file opened fine from within modo, but double-clicking on it, of course, opens it in TextEdit (OSX). At first I thought Collect saved the model incorrectly as a plain text file, so I tried opening a Lightwave Object File from within modo again, this time making a minor change and then SAVING it. Same thing. modo saved it as a plain text file. You have to SAVE AS and select your preferred format (Lightwave Object or Luxology Scene).
I'm curious... when you're saving a model that was created in another app, if modo can't save it in the apps native format, rather than saving it as plain text shouldn't it either ask you what format to save it in or shouldn't there be a modo default format? I'm assuming Collect calls the modo save routine, which is why the plain text file was created in either case.
I'm sure I'm just nitpicking...
Thanks again. Dave |
