Modo Artist. Product visualization/Illustration.
Intern/temporary position (6 months)

Description:
The Bose Design Center is part of the Bose Corporation’s Research & Development group. As a corporate entity, we provide industrial design, preliminary engineering, and modeling/ prototyping services to all of the company’s operating divisions. We also support both the Research and Advanced Development laboratories as new technologies are created and productized.

Today, the Design Center totals thirty-four people, and the eighteen industrial designers on staff are organized into four studios in two locations. Each studio is focused on a specific part of the business: Home Entertainment, Automotive Systems, Noise Reduction Technology/Professional Systems, and Advanced Development.

The Industrial Design group is co-located with the User Experience group to ensure close collaboration and seamless execution of the physical design and interaction design characteristics of our products.

As our client divisions grow, we are expanding our staff to meet the demand for high quality design that communicates the Bose brand to new and existing users.

Modeling and rendering design concepts of future Bose products to present to key decision makers in the company is an important function of our studio. We are looking for a Modo Artist that cam assist our design team in all aspects of design visualization.

This is an immediate opening for a 6 months term. Compensation is commensurate to skill level and experience and we also provide travel assistance for non-local candidates.

Specific Skills:
Student or Graduate from an art/design/visualization related field
Fluent working experience using Modo for SubD modeling and rendering

Hard-Surface modeling:
Experience working from sketches and/or with internal components to visualize design concepts and variations on a chosen design.
Clean well-flowing polys (design-changes friendly)
Detail oriented (modeling part seam, buttons, cables, i/o ports, clean blends, even offsets, use of edge weighting)
Ability to drive topology moods matching a design language/intent (blobby/whimsical products, minimalist, hard-edged, rounded, organic/wearable...)
Models for photorealism

Photogenic Photorealism:
Experience rendering models to make them not only photorealistic, but rather alive, exciting and desirable.
Experience with material exploration and texturing: metals, plastics, natural finishes, specialty materials)
Lighting of home interiors as well as photo studio setups
Matching/composing of digital models with 2D background plates

Supporting skills:
Scripting knowledge in Perl and Python, ideally with created tools published in Vertexmonkey
Producing materials textures and vector artwork for mapping on products.
Working with imported 3D Nurbs Data
Making watertight STL geometry for 3D prototyping (Zcorp, Objet, SLA, and Dimension printers)
Assisting in making visual print (Illustrator/Indesign) or online (Powerpoint, Flash) presentations
Familiarity with Industrial Design
3D Animation
