How do I match Modo's camera to Lightwave

Matching Modo's camera settings to those of Lightwave is a subject that's come up a number of times on the Modo forum. Here are the conversions you need to synchronise the two.

Note that Lightwave displays Aperture Height expressed in inches in the camera setting dialog. For the purposes of the following calculations, the Aperture height needs to be converted to mm. You can either do this using a calculator, or alternatively, open the Lightwave scene, look for the line that says 'AddCamera' and a few lines below that there will be a line beginning 'ApertureHeight', followed by a number. Note that this number is the aperture height expressed in metres, so you will need to multiply by 1000 to get the value in mm - e.g if the number in the scene file is 0.0267, the aperture height in mm is 26.7

The information you need from LW is:

Frame size in pixels
PixelAspect ratio
Zoom Factor
Aperture Height (in mm)

then:

Modo_Focal_Length = (Zoom_Factor * Aperture_Height) / 2
Modo_Film_Height = LW_Aperture_Height (in mm)
Modo_Film_Width = ((Frame_width * PixelAspect) / Frame_Height) * Aperture_height (in mm)

example - PAL D1 Widescreen:

Frame size: 720 x 576
PixelAspect: 1.4222
Zoom Factor: 3.2
Aperture Height: 1.0512" = 26.7mm

so:

Modo Focal length = (3.2 * 26.7) / 2 = 42.72
Modo Film Height = 1.0512" = 26.7mm
Modo Film width = ((720 * 1.4222) / 576) * 26.7 = 47.4659
