Modonize: About
Mission Statement

Modonize is intended as a collaborative knowledge base for the user community of Luxology's Modo.

What is a collaborative knowledge base?
Simply put, it's a collection of information - tips, tricks, how-tos, articles and FAQs that are contributed by the Modo user community as a whole. It is similar to a WIKI in concept, but differs in terms of structure, primarily through the definition of specific data types (Articles, FAQs etc.) and is therefore less free-form.

Who can contribute content?
All registered users of the site are by definition content authors with rights to add content in any of the sections that have an 'Add' item link. The only requirement to become a contributor is to register. There are no costs or other caveats involved. In essence the intention is for members to treat Modonize as if were a personal repository of information and to add to it as they see fit.

Who can edit content?
Editing of any particular item of contributed content is restricted to the original author of that item. This is a second major difference in functionality to a more traditional WIKI setup, where content is usually editable by any member with authorship rights. Each item of content, however, may be annotated by any registered member of Modonize by using the comments system. Why implement the site in this fashion rather than in a WIKI style you may be asking and the answer to that is that I felt it was important to be able to maintain the integrity of original contributions. The free-form editing capability of WIKIs brings with it certain security risks that could compromise important information. I felt it was better to only allow original authors to edit/update their own content and to allow interaction with that content by other people as comments/annotations.

Who owns the content on the site?
Copyright for any contributed content remains with the original author. Currently contributed items can only be removed from the system by an administrator, err me :). This again is more of a security measure than anything else and if you need to have something deleted you may do so by contacting me. In the near future I will be implementing a system whereby ownership/copyright on contributions may be 'donated' to the Modonize community.

Who owns the site?
You do, the registered members of Modonize. You are encouraged to treat it that way. The user forum (when it goes live) will provide a place to discuss any enhancements to the site you may like to see and the direction you would like to see Modonize follow. My role will be simply as a developer to implement any requests from the community as a whole.
